Intestinal tumour arising from specialised cells with paracrine functions (APUD cells).
The primary tumour is commonly in the appendix, where it is clinically benign, hepatic secondaries may release large amounts of vasoactive amines such as serotonin to the systemic circulation.
Synonym: argentaffinoma.
