1. An occasional opening in the greater wing of the sphenoid bone, between the foramen spinosum and foramen ovale, which transmits the lesser petrosal nerve. Synonym: foramen petrosum, canaliculus innominatus, foramen of Arnold. (05 Mar 2000)
