Any of a variety of types of biomolecular probes which measure the presence or concentration of biological molecules, biological structures, microorganisms, etc., by translating a biochemical interaction at the probe surface into a quantifiable physical signal. 2. The coupling of a biological material (for example, enzyme, receptor, antibody, whole cell, organelle) with a microelectronic system or device to enable rapid, accurate, low level detection of various substances in body fluids, water, and air.
