Medical Definition of Benzothiadiazides

1. A class of diuretics that increase the excretion of sodium and chloride and an accompanying volume of water, independent of alterations in acid-base balance; most of the compounds in this group are analogues of 1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxide. See: benzthiazide. (05 Mar 2000)
