Medical Definition of Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis

Aspergillosis of the lung that produces a sensitivity reaction and produces an asthma-like condition due to Aspergillus fumigatus.
It is characterised by pulmonary infiltrates, eosinophilia, elevated serum IgE and immediate type skin reactivity to aspergillus antigen. It produces mucoid impaction of bronchi distal to lobar bronchus, the mucus plugs often contain fungi and the chest X-ray may show Y-shaped densities due to mucus plugs wedged in the bronchi.
