Typical presentation: Sudden onset of brisk rectal bleeding without blood in gastric aspirate Diagnostic considerations: diverticulosis, angiodysplasia, ischemic colitis, inflammatory bowel disease (rarely), polyps are usually present, carcinoma causing a chronic bleed, haemorrhoids.
