Medical Definition of Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans
1. A gradually progressive late skin manifestation of Lyme disease, appearing first on the feet, hands, elbows or knees, and comprised of indurated, erythematous plaques that become atrophic, giving a tissue-paper appearance of the involved sites. The disease is caused by Borrelia spirochetes, commonly transmitted by the Ixodes ricinus wood tick. (05 Mar 2000)
