Medical Definition of Acetylmethadol

1. An opioid analgesic which exists in 4 different optical isomers. The l isomers are active and l-acetylmethadol (LAM) has a long duration of action and has been tried as a substitute for methadone in methadone maintenance programs and in programs where methadone is to be withdrawn, as in physical dependence of the morphine type.
