Medical Definition of Thorn test
1. A putative test of adrenal cortical function; stimulation of a normally functioning adrenal cortex by the adrenocorticotrophic hormone is followed by a reduction in the number of circulating eosinophils and lymphocytes and an increase in the excretion of uric acid. The test lacks sufficient specificity and is rarely used. (05 Mar 2000)
