Medical Definition of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

1. Species of fission yeast commonly used for studies on cell cycle control because there is a distinct G2 phase to the cycle. Only distantly related to the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae Saccharomyces cerevisiae. A further advantage is that some mammalian introns are processed correctly.
