Medical Definition of Polyplax
1. A sucking louse (order Anoplura) of rats and mice. The species Polyplax serratus (the mouse louse) has been shown experimentally to be capable of transmitting tularaemia and may also be a vector for murine typhus and Trypanosoma lewisi. Origin: poly-+ G. Plax, plate, plaque (05 Mar 2000)
