1. A genus of ixodid ticks closely resembling Boophilus, but not having festoons or ornamentations; they are characterised by greatly enlarged posterior legs and a prolonged median plate. Origin: G. Margaros, pearl oyster, + pous, foot (05 Mar 2000)
