Medical Definition of LIM domain
1. Domain found in proteins required for developmental decisions. Contain 60 residue conserved, cysteine rich, repeats. Named after first 3 genes in group: Lin 11 (C. Elegans required for asymmetric division of blast cells), IsI 1 (mammalian insulin gene binding enhancer protein), mec 3 (C. Elegans required for differentiation of a set of sensory neurons).
