1. Proper noun. A subdivision of the Hebrew Testament (Tanakh) that is known in English, as "The Writings." It is composed of Songs (Psalms, and Song of Solomon), Proverbs, and 8 other books of the bible that were written near the close of the canon. These scriptures are viewed as less authoritative than the Torah. ¹
