Medical Definition of Heller myotomy

Treatment of oesophageal achalasia by longitudinal division of the lowest part of the oesophageal muscle down to the submucosal layer; some muscle fibres of the cardia may also be divided.
Synonym: cardiomyotomy, oesophagogastromyotomy, Heller myotomy.
