Medical Definition of Gymnoascaceae

1. A family of fungi which includes the ascomycetous state of many of the dermatophytes and several of the systemic pathogens for humans (Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis, etc.). Until the sexual forms were recognised, these pathogens were classified with Fungi Imperfecti. (05 Mar 2000)
