Medical Definition of DDL

1. A nucleoside analogue that inhibits infection of new cells by HIV. FDA-approved for individuals intolerant to or failing on AZT and for people who have taken AZT for sixteen weeks or more. Side effects can include nerve damage in the hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy), damage to the pancreas (pancreatitis) and diarrhoea. (09 Oct 1997)
