Medical Definition of Bordetella pertussis

A small, aerobic, gram-negative bacillus, causative organism of whooping cough.
Produces a variety of toxins including a dermonecrotising toxin, an adenyl cyclase, an endotoxin and pertussis toxin, as well as surface components such as fimbrial haemagglutinin.
