Medical Definition of Blastomyces dermatitidis

1. A dimorphic soil fungus that causes blastomycosis. It grows in mammalian tissues as budding cells and in culture as a white to buff-coloured filamentous fungus bearing spherical or ovoid conidia on terminal or lateral short, slender conidiophores. In its perfect (teleomorph) state it is known as Ajellomyces dermatitidis. Origin: blasto-+ G. Mykes, fungus (05 Mar 2000)
