1. Anaemia occurring in infection with Bartonella bacilliformis and characterised by an acute febrile anaemia of rapid onset and high mortality. Occurs in central Andean mountains of northern South America; vector is phlebotomine sandfly, Lutzomyia. (05 Mar 2000)
