Medical Definition of Babesia canis

1. Species found in dogs, wolves, and jackals in many tropical and subtropical areas of the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa; it is most pathogenic in dogs, causing mild to severe canine babesiosis, the severest disease occurring in dogs imported into areas where the disease is enzootic; the most important vector is Rhipicephalus sanguineus.
