Medical Definition of Askanazy cell
1.
Abnormal thyroid epithelial cells found in auto immune thyroiditis. The cubical cells line small acini and have eosinophilic granular cytoplasm and often bizarre nuclear morphology.
Synonym: Hurthle cell, oxyphil cell, oncocyte.
