Medical Definition of Typhlostomy

1. Surgical construction of an opening into the caecum with a tube through the abdominal wall (tube caecostomy) or by skin level approach, in which the caecum is sewn to the surrounding peritoneum. Its primary purpose is decompression of colonic obstruction. (12 Dec 1998)
