Medical Definition of Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole combination

1. 4-amino-n-(5-methyl-3-isoxazolyl)benzenesulfonamide mixture with 5-((3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)methyl)- 2,4-pyrimidinediamine. This drug combination has proved to be an effective therapeutic agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. It is effective in the treatment of many infections, including pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in aids, but is the drug of choice for urinary infection. Pharmacological action: anti-infective agents, anti-infective agents, urinary, antimalarials. Chemical name: Benzenesulfonamide, 4-amino-N-(5-methyl-3-isoxazolyl)-, mixt.
