Medical Definition of Telopeptide

1. Portions of the amino acid sequence of a protein that are removed in maturation of the protein. Best example are the N and C terminal telopeptides of procollagen that are involved in development of the quaternary structure and are then proteolytically removed by procollagen peptidases.
