1. Noun. A sloppily cut groove, furrow, or trench, characterised by the presence of refuse material from which it was cut. The word is derived from the Latin '''scoria''', which means ''slag'' or ''dross'' , and thus is related to the english words ''scoria'' and ''scorify'', which both refer to the waste left over from smelting ore. ¹
