Medical Definition of Pars planitis

1. A condition that causes inflammation of the peripheral retina and/or pars plana, with exudation into the overlying vitreous base, and oedema of the optic disk and adjacent retina. It is a form of granulomatous uveitis and is a common condition with no detectable focal pathology. It causes fibrovascular proliferation at the inferior ora serrata. (22 Sep 2002)
