Medical Definition of P42(mapk) kinase

1. A proline-directed serine/threonine kinase which mediates signal transduction from the cell surface to the nucleus. Activation of the enzyme by phosphorylation leads to translocation into the nucleus and phosphorylation of certain transcription factors. Registry number: EC 2.7.10.- (12 Dec 1998)
