1. D-phenylalanyl-l-cysteinyl-l-phenylalanyl-d-tryptophyl-l-lysyl-l-threonyl-n-(2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl)propyl)-l-cysteinamide cyclic (2-7)-disulfide. A potent, long-acting somatostatin octapeptide analog which has a wide range of physiological actions. It inhibits growth hormone secretion, is effective in the treatment of hormone-secreting tumours from various organs, and has beneficial effects in the management of many pathological states including diabetes mellitus, orthostatic hypertension, hyperinsulinism, hypergastrinaemia, and small bowel fistula. Pharmacological action: antineoplastic agent, hormonal, gastrointestinal agents, hormones, synthetic.
