Medical Definition of Neonatal herpes
1. Herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2 infection transmitted from the mother to the newborn infant, often during passage through an infected birth canal; severity varies from mild to fatal generalised infection, the latter especially with primary maternal genital herpes. (05 Mar 2000)
