Medical Definition of Mesenteric vascular occlusion

1. Obstruction of the flow in the mesenteric circulation by atherosclerosis, emboli or thrombi, stenosis, trauma, and compression or intrinsic pressure from adjacent tumours. Rare causes are drugs, intestinal parasites, and vascular immunoinflammatory diseases such as periarteritis nodosa and thromboangiitis obliterans. (12 Dec 1998)
