An ansa macrolide isolated from the east african shrubs maytenus serrata and m. Buchananii. It has antineoplastic activity, probably due to its inhibition of DNA synthesis.
Pharmacological action: antineoplastic agent, phytogenic, nucleic acid synthesis inhibitors.
