Medical Definition of Ipecac syrup
1. A sweetened liquid medicinal preparation containing powdered ipecac extract, which contains the alkaloids emetine and cephaline; used as an emetic in certain cases of poisoning and (at lower doses) as an expectorant. (05 Mar 2000)
