Medical Definition of Immunologically competent cell

1. A small lymphocyte capable of being immunologically activated by exposure to a substance that is antigenic (immunogenic) for the respective cell; activation involves either the capacity to produce antibody or the capacity to participate in cell-mediated immunity. (05 Mar 2000)
