Medical Definition of Hypochromicity

1. A decrease in the optical density of a solution with nucleic acids in it such that it is less able to absorb ultraviolet radiation, which occurs when single-stranded nucleic acid molecules renature into double-stranded molecules. (11 Jan 1998)
