Medical Definition of Hypersegmented neutrophil

1. An aged and degenerated neutrophil in which there may be 6 to 10 lobes in the nucleus. Immature neutrophil, a young neutrophil; the term is usually used with reference to stab neutrophil's (or other "juvenile" neutrophil's), neutrophilic granulocytes in which the nucleus is indented but not distinctly segmented. Juvenile neutrophil, any cell of the granulocytic series in which the neutrophilic granules are recognizable and the nucleus is indented (the first phase of segmentation). (05 Mar 2000)
