1. Term used to designate tetrahydroxy aldehydic acids obtained by oxidation of hexose sugars, i.e. Glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, etc. Historically, the name hexuronic acid was originally given to ascorbic acid. (12 Dec 1998)
