1. Haemoglobinaemia is a medical condition in which free haemoglobin proteins are present in blood plasma. This occurs when red blood cells (within which haemoglobin is normally found) have been injured while in the blood vessels. Origin: Gr. Haima = blood (09 Oct 1997)
