Medical Definition of Green monkey virus

1. An RNA virus infection (filovirus) typically of rhesus, vervet, and squirrel monkeys. It is transmissible to man, where it causes Marburg disease, a severe haemorrhagic fever. It was first described arising among laboratory workers in Marburg, Germany, following exposure to African green monkeys. Some human person-to-person spread has been seen. (12 Mar 2008)
