Medical Definition of Eosinophillic folliculitis

1. An inflammatory reaction around hair follicles, characterised by very itchy papules that may grow together to form plaques. The cause of this condition in people with AIDS has yet to be established, although the condition obviously involves invasion of the follicles by eosinophils. Partially successful treatment has been reported with ultraviolet light, steroids, antihistamines and itraconazole. (09 Oct 1997)
