Medical Definition of Desulfhydrases

1. Enzymes or groups of enzymes catalyzing the removal of a molecule of H2S or substituted H2S from a compound, as in the conversion of cysteine to pyruvic acid by cysteine desulfhydrase (cystathionine gamma-lyase). Synonym: desulfurases. (05 Mar 2000)
