Medical Definition of Arrestin
1. A 48-kD inhibitory protein of the outer segment of the retinal rods and a component of the phototransduction cascade. Arrestin binds to tyrosine phosphorylated receptors, stopping G-protein activation by binding to phosphorylated photolyzed rhodopsin. Arrestin can produce an autoimmune uveitis. (18 Nov 2007)
