1. An antibiotic isolated from various streptomyces species. It interferes with protein and DNA synthesis by inhibiting peptidyltransferase or the 80s ribosome system. Pharmacological action: antibiotics, antiprotozoal agents, nucleic acid synthesis inhibitors, protein synthesis inhibitor. Chemical name: 3,4-Pyrrolidinediol, 2-((4-methoxyphenyl)methyl)-, 3-acetate, (2R-(2alpha,3alpha,4beta))- (12 Dec 1998)
