Medical Definition of Tensilon test

1. In this test the drug Tensilon is administered and the response in muscle strength is then assessed. This test is used to help diagnose myasthenia gravis. In myasthenic patients (and myasthenic crisis), Tensilon administration will result in a temporary improvement in muscle strength. In the case of cholinergic crisis (too much anticholinesterase medication), Tensilon will exaggerate the weakness. (13 Jan 1998)
