1. The horse leech; a species of land-leech of southern Europe and northern Africa which may infest the nostrils or gullet and, attaching itself to the mucous membrane, may cause haemorrhages and anaemia in horses and other animals drinking leech-infested water. Origin: G. Limne, pool (05 Mar 2000)
