Medical Definition of Jolles' test

1. A test for bile; a precipitate is obtained by agitation with chloroform, a solution of barium chloride, and hydrochloric acid; the precipitate is removed, and the addition of a drop or two of sulfuric acid will produce a play of colour if bile pigments are present. (05 Mar 2000)
